Android App to Hijack and Remotely Control the Aircraft

A commercial pilot and security researcher Hugo Teso has created a android app PlaneSpoilt who claims that by his app he can control the aircraft. He uses his Samsung phone, radio transmitter & flight management software. He showed his three year research work during a conference (Hack in the Box) at Amsterdam. He basically interfere with the data which is being sent to the plane. He knew the data which is sent to the aircraft lacks security and is not encrypted, the aircraft couldn’t recognize whether the data is coming from correct source or not. The researcher claims that you can control almost everything related to aircraft’s navigation including pilot’s display screen, turning on the lights in the cockpit etc. His app requires that the aircraft should be under autopilot mode to do the attacks.

FAA is currently working on fixing this issue.
