63 People in India Put on No-Fly List in the Past Year
In the past year, 63 people in India have been placed on the aviation no-fly list due to unruly behaviour. This is according to the Minister of State for Aviation, VK Singh, as he informed the Rajya Sabha today. The list includes two recent cases of urinating on a flight.
The Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR) dictate that airlines have internal committees which recommend and impose the no-fly list. In the past three years, since 2017, 143 passengers have been placed on the list.
The ‘No Fly List’ is kept and maintained by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). It contains specific information related to the passenger involved, details of their identification. Also, the date of the incident, the sector and flight number, and the period of ban.
DGCA has imposed a financial penalty of Rs 30,00,000 on Air India for the incident that occurred in their AI-102 flight from New York to New Delhi on November 26, 2022. In addition, the Director Flight services of Air India has been fined Rs 3,00,000 and the pilot in command’s license has been suspended for three months. For an incident in AI-142, Paris to New Delhi flight on December 6, 2022. The DGCA has imposed a financial penalty of Rs 10,00,000 on Air India, as stated in their response.
