Air India set to order around 500 jets, says aircraft lessor
Air India, the Indian flag carrier, is the latest in a series of international airlines that are looking to expand their fleets in anticipation of a post-pandemic recovery. According to AirLease Corp executive chairman Steven Udvar-Hazy, the Tata-owned airline is planning to order close to 500 aircraft. Also, 400 of them are narrow-body planes, and the remaining 100 are wide-body planes. The order is expected to include Airbus A320neos, A321neos, Boeing 737 MAXs, Boeing 787s, 777Xs, 777 freighters, and Airbus A350s.
The announcement comes at a time when the airline industry is starting to show signs of recovery. As travel restrictions are slowly being lifted and people are once again willing to fly. Air India’s order is a sign of confidence in the Indian aviation industry. The airline is looking to capitalize on the expected growth in demand for air travel in the coming months.
With the order, Air India is looking to add more capacity to its network to meet the growing demand for air travel, as well as to replace its aging fleet. The new aircraft, with their modern technology, will help the airline to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
Air India’s order is a major boost for the airline industry, which has been hit hard by the pandemic, with many airlines laying off staff and grounding fleets in an effort to cut costs. The Indian flag carrier is setting a positive example for other airlines to follow. It will be interesting to see how this order affects the recovery of the industry in the long run.
