Lucknow Airport to be Silent at Night for 4 Months Starting February 23

Lucknow is set to undergo a major transformation as the Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport will not undertake night flight operations for four months from February 23 to July 11. This is to facilitate the expansion and upgradation work of the existing runway (airside) as the airport is gearing up for future challenges with the rise in the number of passengers and cargo flow.

The airport authorities have informed the airlines about the non-availability of the runway for 8.5 hours during this period. This will help them to plan accordingly and facilitate the passengers in the best way possible. The airport will be undertaking various construction activities including the introduction of three new link taxiways, new ground lights for aircraft operations, a runway end safety area made of sand, and aircraft turn pad expansion, among other things.

The upgradation and expansion of the Lucknow airport have been given the green signal by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. The passenger handling capacity will be enhanced to up to 39 million per annum from the existing 4.5 million and the cargo handling capacity to up to 0.25 million tonnes per annum.

The upgradation of the Lucknow airport is of utmost importance to cater to the increasing demand for air travel in the region. The four-month period of no-night flights will ensure that the necessary expansion and upgradation of the airport is completed in time. The airport is also taking necessary precautions to ensure that the disruption to air travel due to the upgradation is minimized.
