Vistara Takes Delivery of Airbus A321LR Aircraft from Germany

Vistara, the full-service airline jointly owned by the Tata Group and Singapore Airlines, announced on Monday that it had received its Airbus A321LR plane from Germany on February 4. This is the first time an Indian carrier has operated this long range variant of the A320Neo plane. In 2018, Vistara had placed an order for 50 A320Neo family planes, including the A321LR.

The A321LR has a maximum take-off weight of 97 tonnes and a three-way auxiliary centre fuel tank, giving it greater range and fuel efficiency. The aircraft features 188 seats, 12 in business class, 24 in premium economy, and 152 in economy class, as well as 4-way adjustable headrests, in-seat power/USB charging ports, in-flight entertainment system, and an onboard Wi-Fi facility.

Additionally, Vistara is in the process of merging with Air India, now owned by the Steel-to-salt conglomerate. Airline Chief Executive Officer Vinod Kannan said that the addition of the A321LR to its expanding fleet shows its stronger focus on international expansion. Kannan added, “It enables us to offer longer range connectivity to our customers while also maintaining greater fuel efficiency.” He also said that the airline was aiming to have 70 planes in the fleet by mid-2024.
