Air Asia Plane Grounded in Pune After Tire Crack Discovered
On Sunday, an Air Asia aircraft was “grounded” at a runway in Pune by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) after one of the flight’s tyres was found to be “cracked”.
The flight regulator said that pieces of the tread of the tyre had been found on the Bengaluru runway, from which the plane had been taxied. After further inspection at Pune, the sidewall of the number 3 tyre was observed to be cracked. This is resulting in the flight being halted from taking off any further.
The incident has raised questions about the safety of AirAsia India aircraft. In the recent past, the airline has faced a number of safety-related issues. In August 2017, an AirAsia India aircraft had to make an unscheduled landing due to a technical fault. A month later, an AirAsia India flight from Bengaluru to Goa had to be diverted due to a technical issue.
Such incidents have raised serious concerns about the safety standards of the airline. In response, AirAsia India has said that it has always prioritized safety and is committed to complying with all applicable safety regulations.
The DGCA has also stepped in to take action. It has formed a committee to investigate the incident and review the safety standards of the airline. The committee is also expected to submit its report within 15 days.
