Air India Newark-Delhi flight diverted to Stockholm caused oil to leak
An Air India flight from Newark to Delhi, carrying over 290 passengers, was forced to make an emergency landing in Stockholm on Wednesday due to an oil leak in one of the engines. In light of this incident, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will be conducting a probe. A senior official from the DGCA reported that the flight Boeing 777-300ER aircraft was affected by an oil leak.
The plane, carrying 292 passengers including 8 infants, made an emergency landing in Stockholm after the engine was shut down. Fortunately, the aircraft landed safely, according to the airline official.
The aircraft, carrying a crew of around 300 people, encountered an issue during its ground inspection. Oil was spotted oozing out from the drain mast of engine two. Prompting the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to launch an investigation into the incident. A DGCA official confirmed the news.
On Monday, an Air India flight from New York to Delhi was forced to divert to the Swedish city of Stockholm due to a technical issue. Not long after, the same airline experienced a medical emergency during a flight from Newark, US, and had to divert the plane to London.
The incident in Stockholm is the latest in a string of safety-related issues for Air India. In recent months, the airline has had several incidents that have raised serious concerns over the safety of its fleet. The DGCA has launched an investigation into the oil leak incident and is expected to release its findings soon.
