IndiGo recently declared the launch of new flights between Mumbai-Silchar and Delhi-Itanagar via Kolkata. This new route will reduce air travel time by half, the airline stated. However, the offer is not transferable, exchangeable, or even encashable, according to the airline. Earlier this month, IndiGo announced its 78th domestic destination, Dharamshala, with a planned commencement of operations between Delhi-Dharamshala on March 26, 2023. India’s domestic air passenger traffic has seen a significant recovery from its pandemic lows, with 1.25 crore passengers taking to the skies in January 2021, nearly double that of the 64.08 lacks in the same period the previous year. IndiGo also carried the highest share of passengers at 68.47 lakhs in January, with a 54.6% market share.

In January 2023, Air India and Vistara transported 11.55 lakh and 11.05 lakh passengers, respectively, with a market share of 9.2% and 8.8%, respectively. Basically, All the Tata Group airlines – Air India, Vistara, and AirAsia India – combined carried 32.30 lakh domestic passengers, which accounted for approximately 26% of the total domestic market that month. Furthermore, IndiGo held the highest On-Time Performance (OTP) in January, with an average of 84.6% of its flights departing and arriving at their scheduled time from the four major metro airports – Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.
