Indian Aviation Industry Plans for 22,907 Weekly Domestic Flights in Summer Schedule

According to India’s aviation regulator DGCA, the country’s airlines will be running 22,907 weekly domestic flights during the upcoming summer schedule, which begins on March 26. The airlines flew 21,941 weekly flights during the previous winter schedule, and this number increased by 4.4% to represent the current number. It’s worth noting that the summer schedule runs from March 26 to October 28.

IndiGo leads the pack with a maximum of 11,465 weekly flights, among the 11 airlines that will operate domestic services in the upcoming season. IndiGo has scheduled to offer 10,085 flights for the 2022 summer schedule. In comparison, Alliance Air, Air Asia, SpiceJet, and Vistara, among the 11 airlines, will operate fewer flights in the forthcoming summer schedule than in the 2022 winter schedule, which runs from October 28, 2022, to March 25, 2023.

According to a recent announcement, SpiceJet’s summer flight schedule will see a significant reduction in weekly flights. The airline plans to operate only 2,240 flights per week, which is approximately 30% lower than the 3,193 weekly flights offered in the winter schedule.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) released a statement on Friday outlining the finalized flight schedule for the upcoming summer season. The schedule includes 22,907 weekly departures from 110 airports, which is a slight increase from the 21,941 weekly departures from 106 airports in the previous winter schedule.
