Mumbai Airport: Temporary Closure of Both Runways on May 2 for Maintenance Work
The private airport operator released a statement announcing that it will temporarily close both runways at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Mumbai Airport for five hours on May 2 as part of its annual monsoon contingency plan. The temporary closure will allow engineers and airside teams to inspect the runway surfaces for any wear and tear that may have occurred during day-to-day operations, and make any necessary repairs to ensure passenger safety.

Pre-monsoon maintenance work will result in the closure of both runways, RWY 09/27 and 14/32, at the Adani Group-owned airport from 11 am to 5 pm. The airport has already informed all relevant stakeholders six months in advance, including airlines who have had time to adjust their flight schedules accordingly.
CSMIA has assured passengers that all operations will resume as usual from 5 pm on May 2. As the world’s second busiest single-runway airport, CSMIA handles around 900 flight movements each day. The temporary closure of both runways is a routine exercise that takes place every year to ensure operational continuity and maintain the airport’s high safety standards.
Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport is one of the busiest airports in India, serving millions of passengers every year. The temporary closure of both runways will undoubtedly cause some inconvenience to passengers traveling to and from Mumbai on May 2. However, MIAL has stated that the maintenance work is crucial for the safety and efficiency of the airport, and it is in the best interest of passengers.
MIAL has also advised passengers to arrive at the airport well in advance of their scheduled departure time to avoid any last-minute delays or inconveniences. Airlines advise passengers to check for any updates or changes to their flight schedules.
