A Sneak Peek Into Chennai Airport’s New World-Class Terminal
Visitors to the Chennai International Airport’s New Integrated terminal building, T-2, will witness a harmonious blend of the latest advanced technology and the grandeur of the ancient Tamil culture. The terminal’s inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday marks a significant milestone for the city’s infrastructure.
Spread across a vast expanse of 1,36,295 square meters, the state-of-the-art terminal promises to increase the airport’s passenger-serving capacity from 23 million to 30 million per annum. This enhancement is expected to bring about improved connectivity and stimulate the local economy, making it a valuable addition to the region’s infrastructure.

Skylight is one of the exceptional characteristics of the terminal, which enables the collection of natural light for illuminating the building’s interior. An official elucidating the feature noted, “This feature not only curbs energy consumption but also creates a lively and refreshing atmosphere.”
Incorporating local Tamil culture, the new terminal exhibits several traditional elements such as Kolam, sarees, temples, and other elements that highlight the surrounding nature. These features make it a remarkable reflection of Tamil culture.
Passengers using the Chennai airport expressed their contentment with the new development.
According to Nagrag, a passenger at the Chennai airport, the new airport will bring about significant benefits for the public and enhance the city’s infrastructure in various ways.
Vaibhav Varun, a frequent flyer who arrived from Delhi on Saturday, also expressed his support for the new airport, stating that it will improve the overall passenger experience. He highlighted the recent opening of a new car park by the Civil Aviation minister and noted that this will help alleviate the traffic load on the existing terminal. Furthermore, he stated that the new international terminal will cater to the needs of international passengers and ease the travel load on flights from Dubai and Malaysia to other countries.
Several passengers echoed similar sentiments, stating that the country’s infrastructural capabilities are rapidly growing. Partha, an avid traveler, shared his positive experiences of recent infrastructure developments during his trips from Bangalore to Mysore and Goa. He particularly praised the new airport in Goa and expressed optimism for the new airport in Chennai, stating that the infrastructure development will significantly contribute to the country’s economy and provide an international feel.
