Unruly Passengers: Airlines Urged to Implement Strict Measures

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has instructed airlines to adopt strict measures against unruly passengers and to ensure that they familiarize pilots and cabin crew with the protocols.

The DGCA has taken this step after numerous instances of passengers smoking and drinking onboard, attempting to open emergency exits, and engaging in fights with the crew or other passengers.

Recently, an Air India passenger flying from Delhi to London physically harmed two cabin crew members, and the airline had to hand him over to the police. This incident is just one of many that have prompted the DGCA to remind carriers of the importance of implementing strict measures to deal with unruly passengers.

The DGCA has issued a statement regarding a number of incidents that have recently occurred on aircraft. These include smoking on board, passengers becoming unruly as a result of alcohol consumption, altercations between passengers, and instances of inappropriate touching or sexual harassment.

The regulator has expressed concern that in some cases, pilots and cabin crew have not taken appropriate action, which could compromise the safety of aircraft operations.

The DGCA has instructed the head of operations of all airlines to ensure that they make their pilots and cabin crew aware of the issue and train them to monitor passengers for any inappropriate behavior in response to these incidents. They have also requested airlines to take appropriate action to ensure that they do not compromise the safety of the aircraft and all passengers.

In addition, the IATA has urged governments to support airlines in taking action against unruly passengers and to enact stronger legislation to deter such behavior. The organization has also recommended the use of new technologies, such as facial recognition and biometric scanning, to identify and track individuals who cause disruptions on flights.

Overall, it is clear that unruly passengers pose a serious threat to the safety and security of air travel. By implementing strict measures and working together to address the issue, airlines can help to ensure that all passengers can travel safely and securely.
