New flights to India by Lufthansa announced
Lufthansa, the European airline major, has announced its plan to tap the post-Covid growth opportunities in the Indian aviation market by launching new flights. The airline will be launching flights on Munich-Bangalore and Frankfurt-Hyderabad routes later this year. The first flight on the Munich-Bangalore route will be operated three times a week from November 3, while the flights on the Frankfurt-Hyderabad route will commence in the coming winter.
According to Harry Hohmeister, Member of the Executive Board Global Markets & Network, the Indian market is “very very important” for the Lufthansa Group.
Lufthansa Airline
Currently, Lufthansa has more than 50 weekly services to India, connecting Frankfurt, Zurich, and Munich with various Indian cities, including Delhi and Mumbai. The expansion underlines Lufthansa’s long-term vision to strengthen its footprint in the Indian market by catering to the growing population of young working professionals.
Hohmeister also acknowledged that there is a lot of competition in India, including via Dubai and Qatar. However, he stated that the company’s focus is on designing the company together with a great team in the right way and with the right products, rather than just looking at the competition.
Lufthansa aims to make the best of India’s untapped growth opportunity by providing consumers with the most premium travel experiences during their international trips, be it for business or leisure. The group will invest in premium products and plans to hire more than 20,000 people.
During the Covid time, the Indian market was reorganizing itself completely, and it was completely different from other markets, according to Hohmeister. About the regulations in India, he said that it is something they have to live with and work on.
Lufthansa and Air India are both part of the Star Alliance. Hohmeister stated that Air India is a very interesting company, and he is happy to hear partners developing. He added that no airline can stand on its own, and they need to have partners.
Lufthansa Group comprises the segments of Network Airlines, Eurowings, and Aviation Services. Worldwide, the group has 1,09,509 employees and generated revenues of 32,770 million euros in the financial year 2022.
