Myanmar Airways International Launches Direct Flights from Chennai to Yangon

Chennai, India – Myanmar Airways International (MAI) has announced the commencement of direct non-stop flights between Chennai and Yangon, enhancing connectivity between the two countries. The private airline unveiled its latest route on Sunday, aiming to facilitate travel and foster stronger ties between India and Myanmar. The inaugural flight, operated by an Embraer E190LR aircraft, arrived at Chennai airport on Saturday and received a traditional water salute from officials of the Airports Authority of India.

Specially decorated check-in counters greeted passengers arriving at Chennai and Yangon airports, symbolizing the significance of this new air route. Professor Ranganathan J, the Honorary Consul of Myanmar, formally inaugurated the launch of this service by lighting a traditional lamp at the international departure terminal in Chennai.

With the introduction of non-stop flights by Myanmar Airways International, travelers from Chennai now have convenient access to various popular tourist destinations in Myanmar, such as Yangon, Mandalay, Bagan, and Ngapali Beach, among others. The two nations expect this development to boost tourism and facilitate cultural exchanges.

The flights will operate once a week on Saturdays. The departure from Yangon is scheduled for 8 AM local time, with arrival in Chennai at 10.15 AM. In the return direction, the flight will depart from Chennai at 11.15 AM and arrive in Yangon at 3.15 PM, providing passengers with a convenient schedule for their travel plans.

Myanmar Airways International is currently serving 18 international destinations and 18 domestic destinations. The airline has also established seamless interline arrangements with 34 carriers, facilitating smoother connections and providing passengers with more travel options. This further strengthens MAI’s position as a prominent player in the region’s aviation industry.
