Air India Unveils Website Overhaul in Extensive Technological Upgrade

Air India has recently undergone a technological upgrade, which includes a redesign of its website, www.airindia.com. Tata, the current owner of the airline, has also changed the airline’s URL from “.in” to “.com” as part of this upgrade. Air India’s in-house teams located in Kochi and Gurugram, as well as Silicon Valley in the United States, carried out the redesign process.

According to the airline, the website enhancements encompass experience management, digital marketing, analytics, and personalization technologies. These upgrades are anticipated to significantly enhance the overall customer experience. Air India recognizes that its website plays a pivotal role in effectively serving its customer base and increasing direct-channel revenues.

Furthermore, Air India stated that the design upgrade will facilitate the swift implementation of new customer-friendly features, which were not feasible with the outdated technologies employed for the past two decades.

The airline anticipates that the implementation of these changes will bring noticeable enhancements to the website’s performance, including faster loading times and improved response rates. Moreover, they will make the website accessible to users with visual or auditory impairments, ensuring inclusivity for all. The airline has given special attention to ensuring mobile-friendliness, accessibility, and an intuitive user experience on smaller screens, comparable to that of a computer, recognizing that a significant portion of the airline’s website visitors access it through mobile devices.

In addition to these website improvements, Air India has outlined its plans to introduce an upgraded version of its mobile app later this year.

According to Satya Ramaswamy, Air India’s Chief Digital and Technology Officer, the recent launch of our website upgrade is just the beginning of a series of planned enhancements. Over the next few months, we have a comprehensive roadmap in place that includes improvements in design, content, and features. Our ultimate goal is to establish Air India’s digital direct channels as the clear global leader in the industry.

As part of Air India’s transformative 5-year roadmap, Vihaan.AI, we are undertaking a significant technological upgrade. This roadmap encompasses specific milestones that will drive the growth of our network and fleet, completely redefine our customer experience, and enhance reliability and punctuality. In a major move, we recently placed an order for a record-breaking 470 new aircraft, marking one of the largest orders in the industry’s history. Additionally, we have allocated over $400 million towards upgrading the interiors of all our widebody aircraft with new seats and entertainment systems.
