Air India Bans Passenger for Two Years Due to Unruly Behavior on Delhi-London Flight
Air India has imposed a two-year flying ban on an individual for causing physical harm to two female cabin crew members during a Delhi-London flight on April 10, according to a source. The cabin crew supervisor had filed a complaint against the passenger, identified as Jaskirat Singh Padda, a 25-year-old from Punjab, and the Delhi Police had subsequently filed a case against him.
The source stated that Air India had formed an internal committee to investigate the matter, and the committee unanimously concluded that the individual did not deserve a lenient view. As a result, Air India has banned him from flying with the airline for a period of two years.
The source categorized the individual’s conduct as a Level 3 offense.

The regulations established by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) outline a classification system for categorizing disruptive passenger behavior into three levels. Individuals falling under these categories may be subject to different durations of a ban from flying.
Levels:
- Encompasses disruptive actions like physical gestures, verbal harassment, and intoxicated behavior.
- Involves physically abusive behaviors such as pushing, kicking, or engaging in sexual harassment.
- Includes life-threatening conduct like causing damage to the aircraft’s operating systems, engaging in physical violence such as choking, or committing a murderous assault.
An internal committee established by the concerned airline can determine the duration of a ban on flying for unruly passengers, depending on the severity of their disruptive behavior.
According to the complaint filed by Air India’s cabin crew supervisor, the Delhi Police reported on April 10 that, after an hour of the flight, an unruly passenger attempted to open one of the aircraft doors.
“The passenger was confronted by the cabin crew, who tried to intervene, but he responded by threatening us and using inappropriate language. Subsequently, he turned violent and forcefully struck the supervisor on her neck, causing her to fall to the floor. He then proceeded to pull her hair and assault another crew member by striking her in the face.
“Afterward, with the assistance of other crew members and passengers, the unruly passenger was restrained,” stated the Delhi Police in their April 10 announcement.
Following the incident, Air India’s Delhi-London flight returned to the national capital approximately three hours after takeoff, and the disruptive passenger disembarked.
