During the curtain raiser event for the upcoming ‘Wing India 2024’ conference in Hyderabad, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia emphasized the remarkable growth of domestic passenger numbers, stating that they had increased from 60 million in 2014 to 144 million in 2019, representing a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of approximately 14.5 percent.

Under the government’s three-pronged strategy, the primary objective is to augment capacity, eliminate bottlenecks for aviation industry players, and simplify processes and procedures. Scindia stressed the importance of expanding infrastructure to accommodate the growing demands of the aviation sector. Currently, India has 148 airports, heliports, and waterdromes, and the government aims to increase this number to more than 200 within the next three to four years. By expanding the aviation infrastructure, the government aims to facilitate smoother operations and enhance connectivity across the country.

Civil Aviation Emphasized

In addition to the focus on domestic connectivity, Civil Aviation Secretary Rajiv Bansal emphasized the vast potential for increasing international air connectivity for India. With a rapidly growing economy and a burgeoning middle class, India presents a significant market for global airlines. By fostering stronger international air links, the government aims to boost tourism, trade, and overall economic growth.

The government’s comprehensive plan for civil aviation aligns with its vision of promoting India as a global aviation hub. By creating a conducive environment for growth, the government aims to attract investments, encourage the development of domestic aviation manufacturing, and provide a seamless travel experience for both domestic and international passengers.

The announcement made by Jyotiraditya Scindia and Rajiv Bansal highlights the government’s commitment to supporting and nurturing the aviation industry. The implementation of the extensive plan will accelerate the growth of India’s civil aviation sector, contributing to the country’s overall economic development and solidifying its position in the global aviation landscape.

The aviation industry and stakeholders eagerly await further details on the government’s plan, which is expected to bring about significant positive changes and opportunities for the entire sector. As India moves forward with its vision for a thriving aviation market, it is poised to become a major player on the global stage, attracting investments, fostering innovation, and providing seamless air connectivity to its citizens and the world at large.
