April Sees 1.29 Crore Passengers Traveling on Domestic Airlines
According to official data released on Friday, domestic airlines transported 129 million passengers in April, marking a more than 22% increase compared to the same period last year. However, the number of domestic air travelers in April, which stood at 128.88 million, was slightly lower than the 128.93 million recorded in March.
In April 2022, airlines carried 105.47 million passengers.
The DGCA announced on Friday that domestic airlines transported a total of 503.93 million passengers from January to April 2023. This is representing a 42.88% annual growth and a 22.20% monthly growth compared to the corresponding period in the previous year.
In April, Akasa Air achieved the highest On-Time Performance (OTP) at 94%, followed by Air India (91.1%) and IndiGo (89.6%).
Go First, which suspended flights starting from May 3, had the lowest OTP in April, standing at 41.7%.
Vistara‘s OTP reached 86.5%, while AirAsia India achieved 82.9%, SpiceJet recorded 69.2%, and Alliance Air achieved 67.9%.
IndiGo’s domestic market share increased to 57.5% in April, up from 56.8% in the previous month.
Air India’s market share declined to 8.6% in April, down from 8.8% in March, while Vistara’s market share fell to 8.7% from 8.9% during the same period.
AirAsia India’s (now AIX Connect) market share remained steady at 7.6% in April, according to data.
SpiceJet’s market share declined from 6.4% in March to 5.8% in April, while Go First saw a decrease from 6.9% to 6.4%.
In March, Akasa Air’s market share increased from 3.3% to 4%.
In April, the overall cancellation rate for scheduled domestic airlines was 0.47%, with Alliance Air having the highest cancellation rate at 7.55%.
