Airbus Achieves Unprecedented Demand in India, Commits to Increased Deliveries
Airbus experienced a significant surge in demand from India in June, resulting in a total of 1,044 net orders for the first half of the year, according to recent data. The company officially recorded orders for 500 aircraft from IndiGo, a budget carrier, and 250 from Air India, which were announced or finalized during the Paris Airshow held last month. Despite facing challenges in meeting production targets due to supply chain issues, Airbus has witnessed remarkable growth in response to Indian airlines’ efforts to cater to the rapidly expanding aviation market in the country, driven by its sizable population.
During the first half of this year, Airbus received gross orders for 1,080 aircraft before accounting for cancellations. Additionally, the company confirmed the delivery of 316 jets in the same period, as previously reported by Reuters.

By comparison, in the first half of 2022, Airbus secured 442 orders, resulting in a net total of 259 after cancellations, with a total of 297 jets delivered. For the current year, Airbus aims to achieve 720 deliveries, highlighting its commitment to meeting the demands of its customers.
During the period from January to May, Boeing secured a total of 223 gross orders for airplanes, resulting in a net total of 127 orders after accounting for cancellations. Additionally, the company successfully delivered 206 aircraft during the same timeframe. Both Boeing and its competitor will announce their mid-year results on July 26.
Boeing’s upcoming monthly order figures are anticipated to reflect a substantial surge in demand from India. This surge is a result of Air India finalizing an order for 220 jets at the Paris Airshow. The Indian market has shown significant interest in Boeing’s offerings.
The aerospace industry has been grappling with challenges such as supply chain disruptions and labor shortages since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, industry leaders are now observing more promising signs of stability in the sector.
Airbus, a major player in the industry, has experienced a shift towards larger single-aisle planes that are now capable of operating on routes previously exclusive to wide-body jets. Notably, Airbus data reveals that the A321neo has garnered a total of 5,163 orders since its launch, surpassing the earlier A320ceo to become the company’s best-selling jet model. This trend signifies the growing preference for larger single-aisle aircraft among airlines.
