Mangaluru Airport Unveils Advanced Automatic Number Plate Recognition System

In a bid to enhance convenience and streamline operations, the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) has recently introduced an advanced Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system. This cutting-edge technology enables seamless entry and exit of vehicles to and from the airport, significantly improving the overall travel experience for passengers. The implementation of the ANPR system aligns with the airport’s commitment to harnessing innovative solutions to meet the growing demands of modern-day air travel.

According to a statement released by MIA on Saturday, the ANPR system incorporates e-payment technology, similar to the widely used FASTag system. This integration allows for swift and hassle-free payments for the end user, eliminating the need for manual transactions and reducing congestion at the entry and exit points.

The ANPR system operates by reading the number plates of vehicles entering the airport through any of the four lanes at the entry booths. Additionally, if a vehicle exits the airport within the mandated free passage time of 10 minutes, the boom barrier at the exit booths automatically opens, granting them a seamless departure experience.

For individuals requiring extended parking durations beyond the free passage time, they have the option to pay the prescribed parking fee digitally or in cash at the central pay station located near the flag post on the lower ground floor. This flexible payment system provides users with the convenience of choosing their preferred mode of payment, catering to a wide range of preferences.

Notably, paying the parking fee at the parking pre-payment counter offers an additional 10 minutes of buffer time for exiting the parking lot. Users can also scan the receipt at the exit booth to avail of this buffer time, allowing them to exit without incurring any additional charges.

The parking system at the Mangaluru International Airport offers various time slots for parking, including up to 30 minutes, up to two hours, every additional two hours up to 8 hours, and for durations exceeding 8 hours up to 24 hours and beyond. This structure also provides users with the flexibility to select the appropriate parking slot, optimizing their parking experience and reducing unnecessary expenses.

Customers who opt for the FASTag mode of payment and enter the airport through the designated FASTag lane can experience a seamless passage by utilizing the dedicated FASTag lane at the exit as well. The airport authorities are currently in the process of implementing FASTag technology across all entry and exit lanes, further streamlining the payment process and enhancing overall efficiency.

In a commendable move to facilitate the swift movement of emergency response vehicles such as ambulances and crash-fire tenders, the airport recently inaugurated an additional emergency lane adjacent to lane one at the exit. This dedicated lane aims to ensure unhindered access for emergency vehicles, even during peak hours when there may be congestion at the existing exit lanes.

The introduction of the ANPR system and the integration of advanced technologies like FASTag demonstrate the Mangalore Airport’s commitment to enhancing passenger convenience, reducing waiting times, and optimizing operational efficiency. With these initiatives in place, travelers can look forward to a smoother and more streamlined experience when visiting the Mangaluru International Airport.
