India-Pakistan World Cup Match: Check the Rocketing Airfares for Ahmedabad from various Cities

Looks like the World Cup frenzy has already got India in its firm grip – and the India-Pakistan match is at the center of it all.

All roads, and air routes, lead to the Motera stadium in Ahmedabad, which is set to host the most-awaited match between India and Pakistan on October 15.

And this is one time when being the early bird gets you nothing.

As cricket fans, VVIPs, teams, and sponsors begin making hotel and travel reservations, airfares have already skyrocketed to as high as 350% from major cities to Ahmedabad, according to a TOI report.

A non-stop round trip from Chennai to Ahmedabad will cost you well over Rs 45,000 per person, even when booked three months in advance on July 15. Under normal circumstances, this would cost Rs 10,000 for a round trip, travel industry sources told TOI.

Even cities closer to Ahmedabad like Mumbai and Delhi have clocked 339% and 203% increases in fares for these dates.

Travel Agents Association of India

Virendra Shah, chairman of the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI), said, “Inbound airfares to Ahmedabad have skyrocketed, thanks to the high demand expected over match days. While the opening and final match days haven’t seen great traction, there is a frenzy for the India-Pakistan match. Overall, inquiries for hotel bookings and tickets to Ahmedabad are high for the days.”

Peak-hour flights from major cities are even more expensive. Ahmedabad hotels are already running at high occupancy levels for the match days. Major five-star hotels across the city have already sold out over 60% of their inventories for match days. Inquiries continue to pour in from cricket fan groups, VVIPs, corporates, teams, and sponsors,” said a city-based hotelier.

The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the three biggest matches of the tournament – the opening match, the final, and the highly anticipated India-Pakistan match.

India will host the ICC Cricket World Cup from October 5 to November 19.

Cricket fans across the country are eagerly anticipating the India-Pakistan match, which is always a highly anticipated fixture due to the fierce rivalry between the two teams. The clash between India and Pakistan transcends the boundaries of sports and invokes intense emotions among fans from both nations.

Money for Air Tickets

The surge in airfares is not surprising, given the massive demand for travel to Ahmedabad during the match days. Cricket enthusiasts are willing to go to great lengths to witness this historic event, even if it means shelling out a significant amount of money for air tickets. The substantial increase in airfares, however, may deter some fans from making the journey.

Travel industry experts advise cricket fans to plan their trips well in advance and explore alternative travel options, such as train or bus travel, which might offer more affordable fares. To save on accommodation costs, it is also advisable to consider staying in nearby cities and commuting to Ahmedabad, as hotels in Ahmedabad are currently experiencing high occupancy rates.

The authorities in Ahmedabad are gearing up to accommodate the influx of visitors for the World Cup matches, implementing measures to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for fans. Security arrangements will be intensified, and additional transportation services will be provided to facilitate travel to and from the stadium.

With the tournament set to captivate the nation for over a month, cricket enthusiasts and fans are eagerly awaiting the start of the ICC Cricket World Cup. The India-Pakistan match promises to be a highlight of the tournament, and despite the surge in airfares, fans from both countries are determined to be part of the action.

As the excitement builds, we remind cricket fans to promptly secure their travel and accommodation arrangements to avoid disappointment and ensure a memorable experience at one of the most anticipated matches of the tournament.
