First in Asia: Introducing the Boeing 737-8-200 Variant

Notably, Akasa Air became the first airline in Asia to include the advanced Boeing 737-8-200 variant of the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in its fleet. The aircraft, registered under VT YAV, was ceremoniously handed over to the airline in Seattle, USA, on July 28, 2023, and subsequently arrived in Bengaluru at 9:31 hours on the same day, as stated in the company’s press release.

Ambitious Expansion Plans: Targeting Middle East and South Asia

In a recent interview, Akasa Air disclosed its ambitious expansion plans, with a focus on connecting various destinations in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and South Asia, including Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bangladesh. The airline intends to maintain its single-class configuration on these new routes, aiming to provide a unique and exceptional service experience to its passengers.

Optimism and Confidence in the Future

Vinay Dube, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Akasa Air, expressed his excitement and optimism about the airline’s future prospects with the latest addition to their fleet. Dube emphasized that this landmark addition signifies the beginning of Akasa’s international growth chapter and reflects the company’s dedication to becoming a globally renowned carrier. He confidently stated, “We are very excited at the prospect of showcasing our unique and distinct service to the world.”

Rapid Growth in the Domestic Market

Since its launch in August last year, Akasa Air has shown impressive growth in the domestic market. In June, the airline achieved a market share of 4.9% and carried 6.18 lakh passengers during the month. The temporary grounding of Go First, another domestic carrier, contributed to some domestic carriers, including Akasa Air, gaining market share.

Focused on Sustainable Growth

Despite the intensifying competition in the Indian aviation industry, with giants like IndiGo and Air India pursuing aggressive expansion plans and placing substantial aircraft orders, Akasa Air remains committed to long-term sustainability. In an interview, Vinay Dube emphasized the airline’s focus on building an airline that will stand the test of time, rather than pursuing short-term growth goals.

Adequate Funding and Planned Hiring

To support its expansion plans and ensure smooth international operations, Akasa Air has secured adequate funding. The airline has already ordered 76 Boeing aircraft and last month, it placed an additional order for four more planes from Boeing. Furthermore, Akasa Air plans to add up to 800 new employees by the end of this fiscal year, as it prepares to launch international services. The airline’s commitment to hiring mirrors the efforts of other major players in the Indian aviation industry, such as IndiGo and Air India, who are also expanding their workforce to support their growth plans.

Sustainable and Environmentally Friendly Fleet

Akasa Air’s choice of the Boeing 737 MAX family reflects the airline’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. The 737 MAX aircraft family offers greater range and fuel efficiency, reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions by 20% compared to older models. Additionally, the 737 MAX is designed to be quieter, with a 50% smaller noise footprint, further contributing to a more sustainable and eco-friendly operation.

With its regulatory milestone achieved and a growing fleet, Akasa Air is now well-positioned to take flight into the international skies, bringing its unique service and offerings to global travelers. As the airline sets its sights on new destinations, passengers can expect a new chapter of connectivity and convenience with Akasa Air’s dedicated and customer-centric approach.
