Go Air veers off Runway, took off again from Grass
Go Air Bengaluru news:A major mishap was averted on Monday when a GoAir aircraft landed on runway but veered outside the airstrip instead due poor visibility. During landing, the approach speed of Airbus aircraft is around 135KTs or 250 KMPH, and width of runway is around 60 Mtr only, hence in just couple of seconds ,the smallest mistake could land in this type of incidents and accidents.
There is huge scope in technology improvement to improvise the safety of aircraft. Although Autoland and auto brakes are available in latest aircrafts but during manual take off and landing , there are no safety envelopes or caution for pilot which are specially required for low visibility operations.
The incident took place at around 7:22 am at the Bengaluru airport 11th Nov. The entire crew has been grounded pending a probe into the incident.
The aircraft belonging to the low-cost airline was en route from Nagpur to Bengaluru.
There is no word on whether the incident occurred due to the pilot’s mistake or because of bad weather.
Aviation sources said that the aircraft veered off the runway into a grass patch off the runway even as it continued to its go-around run. It lifted off from the grass patch and thereafter held over Bengaluru waiting for visibility to improve, only to finally divert to Hyderabad. DGCA sources confirmed that the crew stated that the aircraft had deviated to left during go around at Bengaluru.
After landing at Hyderabad, mud deposit was observed on left main landing gear, indicating that aircraft has rolled on to soft ground/ unpaved surface, said a DGCA official.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has reportedly dubbed the incident as “serious”.
Director- general of civil aviation Arun Kumar said that the crew has been grounded. “Aircraft has been grounded in Hyderabad for detailed investigation. Digital flight data recorder data along with other recorder data is being analysed for further investigation,” Kumar said.
