AI-powered booking is now available on Etihad Airways’ chat app BOTIM

According to Astra Tech, Etihad Airways, the state carrier of Abu Dhabi, entered into an agreement on Tuesday to enable customers to book flights via artificial intelligence within the chat app BOTIM. On Monday, BOTIM relaunched as an “ultra app” with a range of new features. It is mainly recognized in the region as a voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP) app.

Among these features is the use of generative pre-trained transformer (GPT) AI technology, which gained widespread attention after OpenAI’s ChatGPT launch in November.

Etihad has struck a deal with Astra Tech to enable its customers to book flights quickly and easily. The technology will automatically complete the booking process by inputting their basic requirements.

This is thanks to Astra Tech’s GPT, which is the first to function in Arabic, as well as in English. The service is integrated into the Botim app, which Astra Tech acquired last year from around 12 investors for an undisclosed sum. According to Astra Tech founder and BOTIM CEO, Abdallah Abu Sheikh, BOTIM is one of the UAE’s leading digital remittance providers, in addition to offering other services.

Astra Tech has developed a BOTIM GPT module that integrates flights and other travel-related services into the Botim app. This enables Etihad customers to book flights in a convenient and innovative way. The GPT is available in both Arabic and English, making it the first of its kind to operate in the Arabic language.

Last year, Astra Tech purchased BOTIM from approximately 12 investors for an undisclosed amount. According to Astra Tech founder and BOTIM CEO, Abdallah Abu Sheikh, BOTIM is among the top three digital remittance providers in the UAE and offers a range of other services as well.

Furthermore, according to Sheikh, the primary shareholder of Astra Tech, G42, an Abu Dhabi-based artificial intelligence firm, is among its significant investors. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed al-Nahyan, the UAE’s National Security Adviser and the brother of the country’s president manages an extensive business network and leads the company. Additionally, Sheikh stated that Astra Tech will reveal more strategic investors shortly, including institutions from the region and one or two international institutions.
