Air India Addresses Unhappy Pilots and Staff Regarding Salary Revision

Air India’s management has reached out to dissatisfied pilots and staff, explaining that they made the changes to improve the airline’s services and transform it into a world-class carrier.

Recently, the Tata Group-owned airline unveiled a new pay system for cabin crew and pilots, but it was met with disappointment from the employees. Their primary objection was the promotion of captains with over four years of management experience.

In a message to all personnel, including crew members and pilots, Air India announced that they had reworked their employment agreements and restructured the remuneration package for flying staff last week.

Air India’s Chief Human Resource Officer Suresh Tripathi stated in a video message that he is directly addressing the airline’s flying staff through this platform since there is currently no recognized union at Air India. He clarified that this approach is within the framework of the law.

The airline explained that the contract it sent is a collection of applicable policies and existing regulations. Wherever there are differences, changes are introduced to establish a performance and merit-based culture, as expected of any world-class and professionally run airline. The Air India management has been hearing all the concerns of their flying community through various forums and constant communication over the past year.

According to the airline, the guaranteed flying allowance has increased from the existing 20 hours to a fixed 40 hours. With its ambitious growth and large aircraft order, the organization is confident in providing more and more opportunities for flying.

The airline emphasized that income across the board has increased at 70 hours of flying. They also stated that they are a productivity-oriented organization, and anyone who is ready to contribute will grow and prosper.

Air India has increased the pay of its trainers as it prepares to ramp up its training efforts. The pay increase includes both fixed and variable components, resulting in a more than 40 percent increase in trainers’ allowances. In addition, the airline has done away with the differences in flying rates for pilots of the same rank, ensuring fairness in compensation. The flying allowance rates at Air India are among the highest in the Indian aviation industry, and higher rates are available for pilots who fly more than 40 hours.

Air India has also introduced additional compensation for command upgrade and conversion training, which was not previously available. The airline has added a fixed amount to salaries to recognize the contributions of experienced staff. Air India aims to become more competitive and responsive to employee needs through these changes. In addition, the airline has introduced best-in-class employee insurance and other benefits to support the welfare of its flying staff.

Air India believes that these changes will make the airline more attractive to prospective employees and help retain its current workforce. By offering market-competitive compensation and benefits, Air India hopes to establish itself as a preferred employer in the Indian aviation industry.
