Air India Express assures stern action against its cabin crew after gold smuggling charge
The airline, Air India Express, released a statement on Thursday acknowledging the arrest of one of its cabin crew members for alleged gold smuggling, just one day after the incident occurred. The staff member involved will also face strict measures which the airline made clear.
Air India Express has stated that authorities have arrested one of the crew members on flight IX 474 for an incident related to smuggling. As a result, the airline has suspended the person in question with immediate effect.
Air India Express has a strict policy of not tolerating such misconduct, and upon receiving the investigative authorities’ report, the company will take severe action against the perpetrator, which may result in their termination from employment.
The Air Intelligence Unit of the Customs department at Kochi Airport apprehended Shafi, a cabin crew member of Air India Express and a resident of Wayanad, on Wednesday. Someone found him in possession of 1.487 grams of gold.
The Customs Preventive Commissionerate apprehended Shafi, a cabin crew member of Air India Express hailing from Wayanad, at Kochi Airport for carrying 1.487 grams of gold. They said the crew member was on duty for the Bahrain-Kozhikode-Kochi route at the time of the incident. The authorities are currently conducting further investigations.
Furthermore, according to confidential information received by the Customs Preventive Commissionerate, Shafi, a cabin crew member of the Bahrain-Kozhikode-Kochi service, was caught transporting gold. Shafi had concealed the gold by wrapping it around his hands and shirt sleeves with the intention of passing through the green channel. Overall, officials are currently interrogating him for further information.
