With the inclusion of Air India’s new service, the total number of daily flights operating between Mangaluru and Mumbai has now increased to five. This route has gained immense popularity among travelers, and in 2022, it emerged as the busiest route, serving approximately 4.90 lakh passengers.

The Air India flight, numbered AI 1679, departs from Mumbai at 12.40 pm and arrives in Mangaluru at 2.10 pm. The return flight, AI 1680, takes off from Mangaluru at 2.50 pm and lands in Mumbai at 4.35 pm. The return journey is served by flight AI 680, departing from Mangaluru at 7.55 am and reaching Mumbai at 9.35 am.

The inaugural flight of the additional service witnessed a total of 182 passengers on board AI 1679, while 167 passengers departed for Mumbai on AI 1680. The response from passengers indicates the demand for enhanced flight connectivity between Mangaluru and Mumbai.

IndiGo Incident

IndiGo, another major airline operating on this route, has also expressed its commitment to the Mangaluru-Mumbai sector by continuing its third daily flight until the end of the current summer airline schedule, which concludes on October 28. Initially, IndiGo had planned to operate this flight until June 15, but due to the sustained demand, the airline has extended the availability of tickets for booking until July 31.

With the introduction of these additional flights, the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) is experiencing an increase in air traffic movements (ATMs) on a daily basis. Currently, the airport handles an average of 38 ATMs per day, with the passenger count, including both domestic and international travelers, reaching around 5,000. The boost in connectivity is not only beneficial for passengers traveling between Mangaluru and Mumbai but also for those using the airport for onward domestic and international connections.

The addition of the second daily flight by Air India and the continuation of IndiGo’s third daily flight on the Mangaluru-Mumbai route demonstrate the airlines’ commitment to meeting the growing demand for air travel on this popular route. Passengers can now enjoy more flexibility and convenience in planning their journeys, thanks to the increased flight options available.
