Air India is to Recruit over 4200 Cabin Crew and 900 Pilots by 2023
Air India, owned by the Tata Group, is on the lookout to recruit more than 4,200 cabin crew members and 900 pilots in 2023 as the airline grows its domestic and international operations. Currently, Air India operates 113 aircraft with a team of 1,600 pilots. A lack of crew caused the cancellation of their instances of ultra-long-haul flights. To avert this, the airline is expanding its roster of personnel to ensure reliable flights.
Air India Express and AirAsia India, the two subsidiaries of the airline, together have approximately 850 pilots flying their 54 planes. Meanwhile, Vistara, the joint venture, boasts more than 600 pilots.
Air India recently made a major order for 470 planes from both Boeing and Airbus to support their expansion plans. Their fleet has already welcomed two Boeing 777-200 LRs of the additional 36 aircraft which the airline has leased.
The Tata Group’s airline has announced a 15-week training program to recruit cabin crew from across the country and impart them with skills in safety and service, while also coaching them to exhibit Indian hospitality and embody the culture of the Tata Group. The program, which will be held at the airline’s Mumbai training facility, will include both classroom and in-flight instruction, as well as familiarization flights.
Between May 2022 and February 2023, Air India welcomed over 1900 new members of the cabin crew to its ranks. In just seven months, from July 2022 to January 2023, the airline has trained more than 1,100 crew and has released around 500 for flying duties in the last three months alone.
Sandeep Verma, Head of Inflight Services, commented on the hiring plans of the Air India Group which involve the recruitment of cabin crew, pilots, and maintenance engineers.
