Air India pilots request Ratan Tata’s intervention regarding the revised salary structure

Air India pilots have sought the intervention of Ratan Tata in resolving the issue of the airline’s management unilaterally altering their salary structure and service conditions. The current HR team is not hearing or addressing the concerns of the pilots, who signed a petition with over 1,500 signatures.

On April 17, Air India rolled out a revamped compensation structure for its pilots and cabin crew, but the Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA) and Indian Pilots Guild (IPG) have since rejected it on the grounds that the airline did not consult them before finalizing the new contracts. The two unions have urged their members not to sign or accept the revised contract and salary structure.

The present management is not treating the pilots with “respect and dignity” and this could have a negative impact on their ability to perform duties, according to the pilots. They also claim to have always been committed to Air India’s success and have gone above and beyond to provide passengers with the best possible experience.

The pilots expressed their commitment to working with the company to find solutions that will benefit all stakeholders in their petition, while also acknowledging the complex challenges faced by the airline. However, the pilots believe that the current HR team is not hearing or addressing their concerns and are therefore respectfully requesting Ratan Tata’s assistance in addressing these issues.

As the Chairman Emeritus of Air India, the pilots believe that Ratan Tata’s benevolent leadership can help find a solution that is fair and respectful to all parties involved.

Therefore, the Tata Group took over Air India in late January 2022, after the airline had been under government control for close to seven decades. The airline has yet to issue a statement regarding the pilots’ request for intervention from Ratan Tata.
