Air India Reports 15% of its 1,825 Pilots as Female

Air India announced on Wednesday that it boasts the highest number of female pilots among all airlines, with 15 percent of its 1,825 pilots being women. AirIndia, in partnership with AirIndia Express and AirAsia India and owned by the Tata Group, has scheduled more than 90 flights staffed entirely by women to celebrate International Women’s Day. Since March 1, these all-women crew flights have been operating on both domestic and international routes, as stated in a press release.

According to the statement, more than 90 flights are being operated by cockpit and cabin crews consisting entirely of women. The Group is operating 40 flights domestically and internationally, while AI Express is flying 10 all-international flights to the Gulf route, and AirAsia India is operating over 40 flights within India.

Air India reports that their workforce comprises more than 40 percent women, of which 275 out of 1,825 are pilots, accounting for 15 percent of the total cockpit crew. Consequently, the TATA group ranks among the airlines with the most significant proportion of female pilots.

According to Campbell Wilson, CEO and Managing Director of Air India, India has the highest number of female commercial pilots globally. He noted that the increasing number of Indian women pursuing aviation careers reflects progress toward achieving gender parity in the industry. Wilson expressed pride in the aviator group’s female workforce and thanked them for sending a strong message that women can thrive in any profession.

According to a recent statement, both AirIndia Express and AirAsia India have a workforce consisting of more than one-third of women. Women hold pivotal positions in numerous departments, including finance, commercial, human resources, customer service, flight training, technology, flight dispatch, engineering, safety, and operations control. The two airlines jointly employ a total of 97 women pilots, highlighting the growing representation of women in the aviation industry.
