Air India Rescues Stranded Passengers in Stockholm with Ferry Flight
Air India announced on Thursday that it will be operating a ferry flight from Stockholm to Delhi to bring back passengers. Passengers were stranded there after their Newark-Delhi flight was diverted to the Swedish capital on Wednesday. The Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft encountered an oil leak in one of its engines. This forced it to land in Stockholm instead of continuing to Delhi.
An Air India spokesperson revealed that a Boeing 777 will be utilized for the ferry flight. It will take off from Mumbai at 2 pm IST, and arrive in Stockholm at 11 pm IST. This flight will then depart Stockholm at 1 am IST on Friday, projected to reach Delhi at 8 am IST.
The Newark-Delhi flight, carrying 292 passengers, 8 infants, 15 cabin crew members, and 4 pilots, made an emergency landing at the Arlanda airport in Stockholm on Wednesday. Fortunately, the flight was able to land safely and all passengers were unharmed. Following the incident, Air India issued a statement confirming they were in talks with the Swedish authorities to get approval for immigration clearance for some of the passengers still at the airport.
A senior official from the DGCA reported that the flight had an oil leak in one of its engines. Consequently, the engine was immediately shut down and the aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing in Stockholm.
Therefore, The incident in Stockholm is the latest in a string of safety-related issues for Air India. In recent months, the airline has had several incidents that have raised serious concerns over the safety of its fleet.
