Air India three domestic destinations to be operated by AirAsia India
Air India and AirAsia India are merging their route networks in an effort to create a low-cost airline. AirAsia India will be taking over flights to and from three local destinations – Bhubaneswar, Bagdogra and Surat – while Air India will be operating exclusively on Delhi-Visakhapatnam and Mumbai-Lucknow routes. Flight frequency will remain the same. In addition, Air India will increase the frequencies between Delhi and Chennai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru, Mumbai and Chennai, and Kolkata and Bengaluru beginning February 13, 2023. This move will enable seamless two-way domestic-international connectivity with long-haul international flights operating from the two metros.
At the same time, Air India will focus on providing two-way domestic-international connectivity, and increasing frequencies on certain routes. This will provide more options for customers who want to travel between major cities and those who need to transfer between domestic and international flights.
With Air India’s privatisation in the works, AirAsia India’s takeover of these three domestic destinations is an important move in strengthening the airline’s position in the Indian market. The move is also expected to benefit customers, who will now have more options when it comes to budget travel. This is especially important during a time when the airline industry is facing an unprecedented crisis due to the pandemic.
AirAsia India’s takeover of Air India’s domestic destinations is an important step in creating a more efficient and customer-friendly airline industry in India. We hope that this move will help the airline industry to recover from the pandemic, and provide customers with more options for budget travel.
