Boeing: India may require 31,000 Pilots in the Next Two Decades
Boeing has highlighted India’s need for 31,000 pilots and 26,000 mechanics over the next two decades, as demand for aircraft continues to surge. Boeing India President Salil Gupte stated that the South Asian region is expected to maintain its position as the world’s fastest-growing market in the aviation industry for the next 20 years. Speaking at a CII event, Gupte also emphasized the importance of making critical infrastructure robust, including airports and pilots, to cope with India’s air traffic growth.

According to Gupte, India’s future economic success is heavily reliant on its ability to cater to the increasing demand for air travel. In addition, the country’s aviation industry must ensure that infrastructure remains up-to-date and that there are enough pilots and mechanics to service the growing number of aircraft. Last month, Air India, owned by Tata Group, placed orders for a total of 470 planes with both Boeing and European aviation major Airbus. In September 2022, Boeing predicted that India’s air traffic would increase by approximately 7% through 2040.
According to Gupte, the recovery in air travel demand has been remarkable after the pandemic. He stated that Boeing does not expect the financial crisis to have any impact on the growth of air travel. Gupte added that it is currently too early to determine the consequences of the banking situations in the US, Europe, and other countries. However, there has been no apparent slowdown in aviation demand.
Gupte noted that there is a vast market for narrow-body aircraft in India, which accounts for up to 90% of the market over the next two decades. He expressed confidence in Boeing’s ability to compete and succeed in each aircraft order campaign.
In addition, Gupte emphasized that Boeing has a dominant position in the global twin-aisle aircraft segment, including India. Also, he said that this leadership position will remain unchanged in all markets.
