Creating an Aviation Hub in India: A Govt Initiative by V K Singh

Union Minister V K Singh declared on Monday that the government is taking a variety of steps to establish an aviation hub in India, such as airlines inducting wide-body aircraft and expanding their fleet size. In response to a question posed in the Rajya Sabha, he said that the Civil Aviation Ministry has consulted stakeholders and has requested the aviation industry to join forces to make India an aviation hub. When asked if the ministry is actively working on creating an international aviation hub for passengers from both within and outside of India, utilizing Indian airports and aircraft, he gave an affirmative reply.

The Minister of State for Civil Aviation and President Droupadi Murmu have worked together to take steps to bring synergy to the airline and airport industries. These steps include consultations between the two, airports exploring new technologies like Automated People Mover systems and intelligent solutions for congestion management, and airports improving their infrastructure to reduce transfer time/ minimum connection time.

Furthermore, airlines are inducting wide-body aircraft and increasing their fleet size to meet the demands of the Indian aviation industry, which has become the third-largest aviation market in the world and is growing rapidly, increasing the number of airports to 147 from just 74 in 2014.

Overall, Singh said, “The government focuses on creating an efficient aviation hub in the country”. He said that the government is taking a number of steps to promote regional connectivity, reduce the cost of air travel, and develop the air cargo sector. All these steps, he said, will help in the economic development of the country.
