CSMIA Sees a 149% Increase in Passengers and Traffic in January

In January 2023, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), the second busiest airport in the country, experienced a remarkable growth in passenger traffic. With a total of 4.5 million passengers through 27,331 flights, the airport recorded an increase of 149 percent compared to the same month in the previous year.

Domestic passenger movement accounted for 61 percent of the total, with 3.2 million passengers, while international passengers represented the remaining 39 percent, with 1.2 million passengers. On average, CSMIA welcomed 140,641 passengers each day, with 882 flights operating daily. The growth in passenger traffic further confirms the efficacy of safety initiatives and protocols implemented by the airport, and CSMIA is optimistic that this upward trajectory will continue.

The recent rise in air travelers at CSMIA fuels a combination of positive sentiments among passengers and a surge due to the festive holiday season. In December 2022, the airport handled a remarkable single-day passenger movement of 1,50,988 people, which is a testament to the growing confidence of passengers in CSMIA’s efforts to provide an outstanding customer experience.

CSMIA has become a hub for connecting passengers to the world. International destinations such as Dubai, London, and Abu Dhabi have held the top three spots for international travelers from Mumbai. Meanwhile, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Goa have consistently been the top three domestic destinations for those originating from the airport. Currently, CSMIA serves as a gateway for 65 domestic and 47 international destinations for passengers in Mumbai and its neighboring areas.

At CSMIA, we focus on bringing a passenger-centric approach to our operations. We strive to be a world-class airport, creating a safe, secure, and efficient airport ecosystem that seeks excellence. Our goal is to become the “Gateway to Goodness,” providing passengers with a seamless travel experience.
