DGCA orders the grounding of the entire crew for the Air India Dubai-Delhi flight incident

On April 26, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) directed Air India to deroster the entire crew of a Dubai-Delhi flight that took place on February 27, after an Air India pilot allowed a female friend into the cockpit during the flight. A cabin crew member had filed a complaint with the DGCA regarding the pilot’s actions.

We do not suspect the cabin crew member to have played a role in the incident, but we have derostered the entire crew pending investigations. The DGCA official said that they will apply the principle of natural justice and give the concerned pilot an opportunity to present their case. The regulator will make a final decision before allowing the pilot to fly again.

Air India has not yet commented on the latest development, but on April 21, the airline stated that it had taken the reported incident seriously and that investigations were underway.

Aviation norms prohibit unauthorized persons from entering the cockpit during a flight, and such entry could violate those norms. The investigation will aim to determine the circumstances surrounding the pilot’s decision to allow his female friend into the cockpit and whether any safety protocols were breached.

This incident is a reminder of the importance of following safety protocols and the need for strict adherence to aviation regulations. The DGCA’s decision to ground the entire crew underscores the severity of the situation and highlights the need for accountability in the aviation industry.

Overall, the incident and subsequent grounding order have highlighted the importance of safety in the aviation industry. Airlines and their crew members must remain vigilant and adhere to established safety protocols at all times, in order to ensure the safety and well-being of all those who travel by air.
