Eight heliports to come up in Himachal in 2023
The Himachal Pradesh government has given the green light to the construction of eight heliports in various districts of the state this year. They took this decision with the intention of promoting tourism and kick-starting their economy. Deputy Commissioners have identified land for the heliports in six districts and the consultancy work, run by Pawan Hans, will commence on March 1, according to an official spokesman.
He stated that Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) were being sent to the Centre to acquire the funds needed for constructing a heliport. The Centre will then assign the budget to the state according to the established regulations. Three commercial entities are utilizing the five heliports in the state at the moment. There is a plan to build more than one heliport in tribal regions due to their high tourism potential, in addition to one heliport in each district.
Six different locations across the tribal regions of Himachal Pradesh – Hamirpur’s Sasan, Kangra’s Rakkar, Chamba’s Sultanpur, Kullu’s Pirdi, Lahaul-Spiti’s Jispa, Sissu, and Rangrik, and also Kinnaur’s Sarvo – will build heliports in the first phase of construction.
Authorities plan to develop the old helipad in Sultanpur, the district headquarters of Chamba, into a heliport. Administrative consultations are currently underway to decide between Pirdi in Kullu district and Kullu’s Aloo Maidan as the site for the heliport.
Nahan and Dhar Kyari in Sirmour, Chanshal Larot in Shimla, Jankaur in Una, Galanala in Solan, and Pangi and also Holi in Chamba will propose to construct heliports in the second phase. These heliports will serve as new air travel gateways for these respective districts.
With these heliports, the transportation of goods and services to the tribal districts will become much easier and people will be able to travel more quickly and safely.
