Historic Flight from Goa to Dehradun Features Goan Woman as Co-Pilot

Shasha Saldanha, the co-pilot, had an unforgettable experience during the inaugural flight that connected Goa to Dehradun. She believes that this historic journey will serve as an inspiration for more women to choose a career in aviation.

On May 23, an IndiGo flight facilitated the travel of Rohan Khaunte, the tourism minister of Goa, to Dehradun. This flight was a result of a collaboration between Uttarakhand and Goa, aimed at enhancing tourism in both states, as confirmed by a senior official from the state tourism department.

This inaugural flight marked the first-ever connection between Uttarakhand and Goa, opening up new opportunities for travelers between the two destinations.

The official mentioned that Saldanha, a resident of Parra village in North Goa, which happens to be the hometown of former defense minister Manohar Parrikar, was specifically asked to co-pilot the aircraft as a symbol of promoting women empowerment.

During an interview with PTI at the Manohar International Airport, also known as Mopa International Airport, Saldanha expressed her gratitude and a sense of honor for being part of “this momentous day in Indian aviation.”

Saldanha recounted the warm reception received by the inaugural Mopa-Dehradun flight, which was greeted with a water canon salute as they veered away from the runway.

She further shared her pride in having the opportunity to fly the tourism minister, Rohan Khaunte, and a delegation of representatives to the picturesque city of Dehradun.

“I envision my inaugural flight to Dehradun as just the beginning of countless opportunities and enriching experiences for women in the aviation industry. It is my sincere hope that our stories serve as a source of motivation for young women, inspiring them to pursue ambitious roles and actively participate in this sector,” she expressed.

Saldanha emphasized that the alliance between Uttarakhand and Goa would not only enhance tourism in both states but also promote connectivity across the diverse nation.

During signing of the agreement between Goa and the hilly state, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was in attendance in Dehradun. This event marked a significant milestone in line with the Prime Minister’s ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ initiative, fostering stronger ties between the regions.
