Hyderabad Airport Serves 21 Million Passengers in Fiscal Year 2023
GMR Hyderabad International Airport reported that it served over 21 million passengers in the fiscal year 2022-23. As the country’s economy recovered and consumer spending increased after the COVID-19 pandemic. According to a press release on Monday, 17.6 million of the passengers were domestic, while 3.4 million were international.
The airport handled a total of 160,597 air traffic movements (ATMs) during the fiscal year, with 137,640 of them being domestic and 22,957 international. Pradeep Panicker, CEO of GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL), stated that the upsurge in air travel from the region was a healthy trend for the sector.
He stated that their aim is to provide passengers with a secure, efficient, and sustainable air transport system. Their expansion plans are being carried out in stages, with strategic investments in technology and infrastructure, making travel more convenient. Some old destinations have been restored, and new ones have been added to the list.
During the 2022-23 fiscal year, passenger traffic has recovered by more than 97% compared to pre-COVID figures (2019-20). Additionally, transfer traffic has increased from 13% to 22% during this period.
Previously ranked sixth in terms of passenger traffic, Hyderabad Airport has now become the fourth busiest airport in India. The airport has expanded its reach to over 70 domestic destinations compared to the pre-COVID period, where it was connected to only 55.
GMR has announced that Hyderabad International Airport will be expanding its capacity from the current 12 million passengers per annum (MPA) to 34 MPA by constructing an integrated domestic and international terminal under a single roof. This development aims to enhance and streamline hub-and-spoke operations for airlines operating in the region.
