I-Day Address: Unveiling Agri-Drones for Women’s Self-Help
Empowering Women in Agriculture: PM Modi Unveils Agri-Drones for Self-Help Women’s Groups
In a significant move to integrate technology and women-led development in the agricultural sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the launch of a pioneering scheme during his Independence Day speech. The scheme aims to provide agri-drones to thousands of women-led self-help groups (SHGs), thereby enhancing agricultural productivity and efficiency, and promoting agri-tech across the nation.
Addressing the nation on the 76th Independence Day, PM Modi highlighted the importance of harnessing technology to boost agriculture and the role of women in driving this transformation. The newly unveiled plan will not only provide agri-drones to SHGs but also offer comprehensive training in operating and maintaining these unmanned aerial vehicles. “We will train women in SHGs to fly drones and also repair drones. The Government of India will provide drones to thousands of Women SHGs,” the Prime Minister stated.
The initial phase of the scheme will cover 15,000 women self-help groups, marking the first step towards expanding the reach of technology-enabled agriculture to rural areas. This initiative holds immense significance as approximately 10 crore women are associated with self-help groups in India. By involving women in technology-driven agriculture, the government aims to uplift rural communities and empower women as change-makers in the nation’s development.
During his speech, PM Modi reiterated India’s commitment to women-led development and progress. He emphasized that the nation’s advancement is intricately linked to the empowerment of its women. He proudly acknowledged the accomplishments of women across various domains, including aviation, and highlighted the crucial role played by women scientists leading the Chandrayaan mission.
AGRI- DRONE
PM Modi emphasized the increasing recognition of India’s efforts towards women-led development by G20 nations, highlighting the growing significance of this approach within the country. This acknowledgment not only reflects India’s commitment but also positions it as a model for other nations to emulate.
PM Modi also shed light on the remarkable achievements of women-led self-help groups in rural India. Expressing his vision of witnessing two crore women become “lakhpati” (millionaires), he revealed that his government is actively working towards introducing measures that would help realize this goal. This aspiration underscores the commitment to socio-economic transformation through women’s empowerment.
The introduction of agri-drones to women’s self-help groups aligns with the larger narrative of modernizing agriculture and uplifting rural communities. Also by providing technological tools and necessary training, the government is opening up new avenues for women to contribute to the agricultural sector’s growth and innovation.
As India takes bold steps towards integrating technology into traditional sectors, the agri-drone scheme symbolizes a forward-looking approach that capitalizes on the nation’s strengths – its women and its commitment to development. This initiative stands as a testament to the power of innovation, inclusion, and the potential of women to shape India’s future.
