Several officials from both India and Guyana, including Hugh Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Guyana, and Lt. Col. (ret’d) Egbert Field, Director General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority, among others, attended the signing of the agreement between the governments of India and Guyana, as reported by News Room Guyana.

This agreement will complement the more than 50 Air Services Agreements that Guyana has already negotiated with other ICAO governments to facilitate interstate air travel.

The Agreement aims to promote the development of international air services and the growth of the global airline market between India and Guyana. News Room Guyana also reported that the agreement covers various essential matters such as the Grant of Rights, Designation and Authorization of Airlines, Revocation or Suspension of Operating Authorization, Principles governing the operation of Agreed Services, Application of Laws, User Charges, Customs Duties and Charges, Aviation safety and security, and more.

With the air services agreement signed between the two countries, Guyanese-owned airlines can now enjoy new investment opportunities and direct market access to international airports in India. Similarly, Indian airlines will also have the same access to Guyana.
