Indian airlines likely to place orders for up to 1,700 planes in next 1-2 years: CAPA

Indian airlines are expected to place orders for 1,500-1,700 aircraft over the next 12-24+ months, according to aviation consultancy CAPA. This is driven by the immense potential of the Indian market, which is considered to be one of the most promising aviation markets post-COVID. Air India is expected to make the first move, with reports that it will shortly place an order for close to 500 aircraft. If this order materialises, it will be the largest order in global aviation history of aircraft. These are expected to include a mix from the A320 neo and 737 MAX families, as well as wide-body equipment.

Moreover, Indian airlines, IndiGo is likely to follow Air India’s order, increasing its aircraft order from 300 to 500. This will bring India’s total commercial fleet to around 1,300 aircraft. CAPA noted that the development of airport infrastructure and economic regulation are improving. Suggest that India may finally be set to take its place as the global aviation market of the 21st century.

With the potential for such immense growth, Indian carriers are set to place orders for around 1,500-1,700 aircraft over the next 12-24+ months, with IndiGo and Air India leading the way. This could mean a huge increase in air travel, with the possibility of much cheaper flights. Also, more destinations and routes available, making air travel much more accessible. This could be very beneficial for India’s tourism industry, as well as the economy as a whole.
