IndiGo and Turkish Airlines: Expanding with 500 Planes from Airbus
IndiGo has taken a major step in its expansion plan by partnering with Turkish Airlines, which will enable it to further expand its reach to Europe. Vinay Malhotra, the airline’s Head of International Sales, revealed on Friday that they have ordered 500 more aircraft as part of this plan. This will improve passenger services from India to Istanbul and to destinations in Europe.
IndiGo has an agreement with European aerospace giant Airbus for a steady supply of aircraft until 2030, according to airline officials. “We currently fly over 300 planes and have nearly 500 more on order,” said Malhotra to ANI. The expansion of their fleet and routes will be dependent on the frequency and timing of when they receive the aircraft. Once they arrive, they will be deployed into the domestic market and some international routes.
“At the moment, IndiGo is operating 1,800 flights a day, with 10 percent of them being international routes. So far, we have been mainly concentrated in the Indian sub-continent and some surrounding countries. Our farthest destination is Istanbul, Turkey. We are very eager to go further, and that is why we have entered into a code-share partnership with Turkish Airlines. This will allow us to expand our reach into Europe like never before,” said Malhotra.
IndiGo and Turkish Airlines
IndiGo has announced a codeshare agreement with Turkish Airlines, enabling passengers from India to fly to Istanbul and on to multiple points in Europe, such as the UK, France, Italy, Ireland, Austria, and Switzerland. With 76 online points within India, people from all over the country funneled into Delhi and Mumbai and then onward to Istanbul and beyond. According to Malhotra, this partnership will provide passengers with many more flight options.
Malhotra always encourages Competition. India has currently approximately 7.3 percent less than 100 million people who have a passport. There is huge potential for domestic and international passengers. Being in the right place at the right time, he said, enables them to take people beyond the boundaries of India. Recently, a certain airline ordered 470 planes, further illustrating the potential of the market.
Mr. Dutta went on to reveal that IndiGo will soon be launching two new destinations: Nairobi in Kenya and Jakarta in Indonesia. When asked why IndiGo was the best choice for those traveling to Europe, he replied, “We are proud to offer our customers the best connectivity to Europe, along with stress-free service, punctual performance, and competitive prices.”
