Jaunt Air, Led by Indian-American Doctor, Plans to Produce Air Taxis and Drones in India by 2025

Chirinjeev Kathuria, an Indian-American entrepreneur, has announced plans to introduce air taxis and drones in India within the next four years. Kathuria’s company, Jaunt Air Mobility, will set up a manufacturing unit in India and collaborate with L&T Technology Services to develop an urban air mobility solution.

According to a report by TOI, Jaunt Air has secured an order for 250 air taxis from an Indian chopper operator. Additionally, Jaunt Air is currently using the RQ-35 Heidrun drone for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance purposes in war-torn Ukraine. Kathuria announced that they would manufacture these drones in India from next year to meet the demands of the defense market.

The doctor-turned-businessman expressed his enthusiasm for the prospect of introducing advanced aviation technology in India, stating that the country has the potential to be a significant market for flying taxis.

The Delhi-born businessman revealed that they located their first manufacturing unit in the US while they will situate the second one in India. He added that they are targeting to commence manufacturing operations in both countries by 2025. Also mentioned is that the production of Heidrun drones may start in India as early as next year. He emphasized that their plans for India are not for some distant future but are immediate.

Dr. Kathuria, who started a commercial company to fund and launch manned space programs in 1999, disclosed that they ventured into unmanned aerial vehicles seven years ago. He further shared that his heart has always been in India, having helped establish the first US investment bank office in India during the mid-1990s while serving at Morgan Stanley. He also expressed his constant search for ways to contribute to India.

According to a report from TOI, the company intends to launch air taxi services in Canada and the US by 2026-27.
