Parking Problems for Top Notch Corporates

Parking Problems for Top Notch Corporates :

Parking .The top Notch Corporate of India are struggling with a luxurious problem ” Where to park their Private Business Jets” ?

Business jet owners have countered Mumbai International Airport Ltd’s (MIAL) contention that the airport does have enough space to build more parking bays.

In a report on business aviation in India, the Business Aircraft Operators Association (BAOA), which represents 78 stakeholders, has claimed that contrary to repeated statements by MIAL, the airport has enough space to accommodate business jets.

The report says that the isolated Lima bay, at the northern end of the Mumbai airport, is sparingly used due to its distance from the passenger terminals.

“This parking bay is located close to the business aviation bay/business aviation terminal, and should be offered to operators for aircraft parking. A joint committee should be set up for devising procedures and assessing any work that may be needed,” BAOA has recommended.

BAOA, which claims to be the unified voice of business and general aviation, has, among others, Reliance Industries, Tata Group, Aditya Birla Group, DLF, and Essar Group as its members.

“Business aviation is no longer a corporate status symbol, but an imperative business tool needed by captains of industry and national leaders to grow in a highly competitive global business environment” said Jayant Nadkarni, president, BAOA.

The report said that business aviation in India continued to perform below its potential. “In sharp contrast to the growth of scheduled airlines, business aviation has registered a meagre 2% growth over the last 5 years.”

The BAOA has also demanded the lifting of curfew timings for business jets (they are not allowed to land, or take off in Mumbai between 8 am and 10 am and 5.30 pm and 7.30 pm).

“Improved air traffic management procedures have allowed almost one landing/departure a minute at Mumbai. Thus, there is need to completely lift curfew timings. Till that happens, limited business jet slots should be given during the curfew periods to cater for emergent needs of the industry,” the report added.

BAOA has also suggested an increase in watch hours (duty timing of the air traffic controllers) at airports in Ozhar, Daman and Surat to help in decongesting Mumbai airport.
