Pratt & Whitney and Awiros of India Introduce ‘Percept’: An AI Inspector with Digital Vision for Aircraft Engines
Pratt & Whitney, the aircraft engine design and manufacturing subsidiary of Raytheon Technologies, has joined forces with Indian startup Awiros to introduce an innovative AI-powered aircraft engine analysis tool called Percept. The launch of this cutting-edge tool was announced at the prestigious Paris Air Show.
Percept leverages Awiros’ Video Intelligence Operating System (OS) to revolutionize engine inspections by adding a touch of digital vision. The tool features a cloud-based interface that also enables users to capture images and videos of aircraft engines using their mobile devices. It then provides real-time responses on parts availability, eliminating the need for time-consuming manual inspections and potentially saving up to 90% of the usual inspection time.
O Sung Kwon, the Vice President of Customer Support at Pratt & Whitney, highlighted the benefits of the Percept tool, stating, “The Percept tool helps reduce time and effort involved in the pre-and-post lease analysis of aircraft engines.” This advancement is the result of a collaborative effort between Pratt&Whitney and Awiros, an Indian startup specializing in Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Pratt & Whitney
Pratt & Whitney has been working closely with Awiros over the past few years to develop and refine this technology. Now, they are also excited to shift from technology development to bringing an operational product to the market. The partnership with Awiros allows Pratt & Whitney to tap into the expertise of a promising Indian startup and leverage their cutting-edge AI and computer vision capabilities.
Awiros, which won the RTX Innovation Challenge, expressed enthusiasm about their collaboration with Pratt & Whitney. Vikram Gupta, the Founder and CEO of Awiros, shared his excitement, stating, “Developing the Percept tool alongside RTX has been an exhilarating journey for Awiros.” This partnership not only strengthens Awiros’ position in the industry but also showcases the potential of Indian startups in the field of AI and computer vision.
Pratt & Whitney has exclusively designated the Percept solution for use with their most advanced commercial engines, including the renowned Pratt&Whitney GTF engine and the V2500. By integrating Percept into its engine inspection processes, Pratt & Whitney aims to enhance efficiency and convenience to new heights. The tool’s capabilities have the potential to transform the way aircraft engine inspections are conducted, streamlining operations and improving overall maintenance processes.
Furthermore, as Pratt & Whitney and Awiros introduce Percept at the Paris Air Show, the aviation industry eagerly awaits the adoption of this AI-powered tool. With its ability to reduce inspection time and improve accuracy, Percept represents a significant step forward in the quest for enhanced engine maintenance and overall aircraft safety.
