Sanjeev Kapoor, Former Jet CEO Designate Joins Saudia Airline
Sanjeev Kapoor, the former CEO-designate of Jet Airways, recently joins Saudi national airline Saudia as an advisor to its Director General, Ibrahim Al-Omar. Kapoor’s appointment comes at a crucial time for Saudia as the airline aims to expand its operations and align with the country’s ambitious infrastructure plans. The airline has already announced its intention to purchase 39 wide-bodied 787 Dreamliner planes from Boeing, while the newly established national carrier, Riyadh Air, has also ordered the same number of aircraft.

Sanjeev Kapoor was initially appointed as the CEO-designate of Jet Airways by the Kalrock Jalan Consortium, which successfully bid to run the airline after a lengthy two-year insolvency process at India’s bankruptcy court. However, the consortium has yet to assume control of the airline, and none of the creditors have received their dues as per the stipulated terms. The revival of Jet Airways remains pending in the courts, leading Kapoor to leave the company at the end of April, approximately a year after joining.
Prior to his tenure at Jet Airways, Kapoor held several prominent positions in the aviation and hospitality industry. He served as the President of Oberoi Hotels and Resorts, Chief Strategy and Commercial Officer at Vistara, and Chief Operating Officer at SpiceJet.
Kapoor’s expertise and experience in the aviation sector make him a valuable addition to Saudia as the airline aims to expand its operations and strengthen its position in the market. While Kapoor has confirmed his appointment, no further details have been provided regarding his specific role and responsibilities within the airline.
As Saudia continues to forge ahead with its growth plans, Kapoor’s appointment signals the airline’s commitment to leveraging industry professionals to achieve its objectives. The airline’s expansion efforts, coupled with the establishment of Riyadh Air, highlight Saudi Arabia’s aspirations to enhance its aviation infrastructure and promote the country as a global aviation hub.
