SpiceJet: Emergency landing in Kolkata after pilot spots broken engine blade
A SpiceJet flight, SG83, was forced to make an emergency landing at Kolkata airport in the early hours of Monday after the pilot noticed a broken engine blade. Carrying 178 passengers and six crew members, the Boeing 737 had taken off from the Kolkata airport at 1.09 am to travel to Bangkok. Upon taking off, the pilot detected a broken blade on the left engine, prompting the flight to return to Kolkata.
The air traffic control quickly declared a full-scale emergency at the Kolkata airport and dispatched fire engines, ambulances, and the CISF emergency teams to stand by on standby when alerted by him.
Airport officials reported that the plane made an emergency landing at 1.27 am and safely brought out all passengers and crew. At 2 am, they terminated the full emergency and allowed the passengers to board a new flight to Bangkok at 7.10 am. Meanwhile, the aircraft with the faulty engine blade was still undergoing inspection.
The incident has also raised concerns about the safety of air travel and the need for regular maintenance and checks to ensure that aircraft are safe to fly. The broken blade in the engine could have caused serious damage to the aircraft, and it is fortunate that the pilot was able to spot the issue and take action before it was too late.
In conclusion, the emergency landing of the SpiceJet flight SG83 in Kolkata serves as a reminder of the importance of regular maintenance and safety checks for aircraft. Airlines must prioritize safety and ensure that they properly maintain their aircraft to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of passengers and crew members.
