Streamlined Travel Experience: Delhi and Hyderabad Airports Introduce Self-Baggage Drop Facility
Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport’s Terminal-3 has implemented a self-baggage drop facility, aiming to reduce waiting times by 15-20 minutes. This convenient service is now available for domestic flyers as well.
Initially, the facility was exclusive to IndiGo passengers, but plans are underway to expand it to other airlines such as Air India, Vistara, Air France, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, and British Airways. For international travelers, the service will be made accessible once mandatory approvals are obtained.
To utilize this feature, flyers need to follow a simple two-step process. They can drop their luggage at any of the 14 self-baggage drop machines. Subsequently, their bags will be automatically routed to the sorting area and then loaded onto the aircraft. Passengers must generate their boarding pass and baggage tag at the self-check-in kiosk. Once completed, they can scan their boarding pass, confirm that their luggage complies with prohibited item regulations, and place it on the designated belt.
DIAL
“DIAL has announced that passengers can now utilize the self-baggage drop facility without the need for separate registration,” stated the airport authority. They further explained, “Each machine can accommodate up to three passengers per minute, resulting in a substantial reduction in overall baggage processing time at the check-in counters.”
Currently, the facility is located at check-in row P of Terminal 3. To ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience, Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, the CEO, expressed, “DIAL has dedicated extensive efforts to enhance passenger satisfaction at Delhi airport through digitization and automation initiatives. The self-baggage drop facility empowers passengers to handle their baggage independently, significantly reducing processing time and allowing them to fully enjoy their time at the airport.”
The airport has designed this facility to provide a seamless travel experience, incorporating a total of 14 self-baggage drop machines (12 fully automated and two hybrids). Each machine has an initial calibrated weight set at 120kg for efficient baggage processing.
Dedication to Innovate
DIAL expressed its dedication to innovation and the constant improvement of the airport experience for travelers by introducing a new facility that sets a higher standard for convenience, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
Taking a cue from this initiative, Hyderabad Airport has also implemented a similar facility. According to an official statement, “In order to optimize efficiency and ensure seamless travel for passengers, GMR Hyderabad International Airport has introduced a self-baggage drop facility near entry gate number 9.”
The airport has deployed eight fully automated self-baggage machines, which come equipped with scanners, scales, and sensors. These advanced features allow passengers to complete their baggage check-in within 45-60 seconds, as stated in a press release by GHIAL on Monday.
Pradeep Panicker, CEO of GHIAL, expressed his enthusiasm about the new service, saying, “We are pleased to offer passengers transiting through Hyderabad airport the added convenience of the new self-baggage facility. This will further streamline travel and enhance their overall experience. Therefore, the integration of self-bag drop technology into the check-in process ensures faster and simpler travel. As we continue to invest in cutting-edge technologies, we remain committed to providing a delightful travel experience for all our passengers.”
