This Airline is doing more than 1 new Flight per minute
IndiGo, India’s leading domestic airline, has reached a significant milestone in its history by operating 1,900 flights per day on its 17th anniversary. That means the airline is doing more than 1 flight per minute. The achievement showcases the unwavering support and trust that customers have placed in the airline over the years. Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, expressed his gratitude to the dedicated staff, referring to them as the “6E stars” responsible for the airline’s success.
From Humble Beginnings to Industry Leader
Since its inaugural flight in 2006, IndiGo has come a long way, making remarkable strides in the aviation industry. On June 19 of this year, the airline made history by securing the largest order in aviation history, consisting of 500 A320 aircraft. This significant order solidified IndiGo’s position as the airline with the biggest order in the industry. Notably, the airline had previously unveiled its first A321, a longer version of the A320 aircraft, on December 27, 2018.
Breaking Records and Expanding Horizons
IndiGo has continuously broken records and expanded its reach over the years. In May, just a month before securing the massive aircraft order, the airline achieved the record of serving a maximum of 3 lacks (300,000) customers per day.
Furthermore, IndiGo has been actively expanding its destination network. Last year, the airline added its 100th destination, Ras-Al-Khaimah, UAE, on September 22. Shortly after that, the airline launched its 99th destination, Bahrain, further strengthening its position as a leading international carrier.
Commitment to Sustainability
IndiGo has also demonstrated its commitment to environmental sustainability in the aviation sector. On February 18, 2022, the airline achieved a significant milestone by operating its maiden flight using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) from TLS to Delhi. This move aligns with India’s efforts to cut emissions from the aviation sector, with plans to mandate the use of 1% of SAF for domestic airlines by 2025, as announced by oil minister Hardeep Singh Puri in May.
Enhancing Regional Connectivity
IndiGo has played a crucial role in enhancing regional connectivity in India through the Udan (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) scheme. The airline launched the Kochi to Hubballi route in January 2018, making air travel accessible to more regions. The Udan scheme offers financial incentives from the government and airport operators to selected airlines, encouraging operations from unserved and underserved airports while keeping airfares affordable.
A Customer-Centric Approach
As one of the fastest-growing low-cost carriers globally, IndiGo is renowned for its simple and customer-centric philosophy. The airline focuses on offering affordable fares, punctual flights, and a hassle-free travel experience across its vast network. With a fleet of over 300 aircraft, IndiGo operates 1,900 daily flights, connecting 79 domestic destinations. The airline is also set to expand its international footprint to 32 destinations soon.
IndiGo’s 17th-anniversary milestone reflects the airline’s dedication to providing excellent service to its customers, remaining committed to sustainability, and continuing its growth as a leading player in the aviation industry. As IndiGo looks to the future, it undoubtedly will continue to shape the Indian aviation landscape with its relentless pursuit of excellence.
